Join the University of Cincinnati Libraries at Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival
September 16, 2010 – On Saturday, October 2, the 4th annual Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival will take place at Duke Energy Convention Center from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The day-long festival will feature over 100 regional and national authors, book signings, author panels, and activities for the entire family to enjoy. All events are free and open to the public.
At the festival, attendees will have the opportunity to meet authors and to purchase signed copies of their books. Books by the Banks features writers in various categories including fiction, non-fiction, cooking, children's literature, sports, and more. Nationally known authors such as Augusten Burroughs, Curtis Sittenfeld, and Beth Hoffman will join local favorites James Claypool, Betsy Ross, and Will Hillenbrand to celebrate the joy and reading of books.
University of Cincinnati authors representing the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) will be among the 100+ authors at the festival. The UC authors are:
- Leah Stewart, assistant professor of English & Comparative Literature for the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences (A&S). Stewart's novel Husband and Wife chronicles a woman's struggle to find her true self after her husband's admitted infidelity.
- Carol Tyler, adjunct professor of fine arts in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP). Her graphic novel, You’ll Never Know. Book II: Collateral Damage, the second of a three-part series that uses comics and graphics to help veterans and their families deal with the effects of war.
- James Wilson, professor of English & Comparative Literature, A&S, is one of two dozen authors included in Gravity Pulls You In: Perspectives on Parenting Children on the Autism Spectrum.

A commemorative Books by the Banks poster by artist/illustrator John Maggard will be available for purchase at the festival for $15.
Books by the Banks is organized by UC Libraries, The Mercantile Library, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, and Joseph-Beth Booksellers.
The Books by the Banks Web site has information on the authors scheduled to appear at the event, a schedule of panel sessions, activities scheduled in the K12 Kids Corner, as well as directions and parking information for Duke Energy Convention Center.
