A New Digital Collection from the University of Cincinnati Libraries Showcases Great Houses of Cincinnati
March 16, 2010 -A new digital collection is available at the University of Cincinnati Libraries Digital Projects Web site. Alice Weston: Great Houses of Cincinnati contains over 1,400 images of some of Cincinnati’s great architectural gems photographed by environmental artist Alice Weston.
Available online at http://digitalprojects.libraries.uc.edu/weston/index.asp, many of the images in this collection come from the publication Great Houses of the Queen City: Two Hundred Years of Historic and Contemporary Architecture and Interiors in Cincinnati, written by Walter E. Langsam and photographed by Alice Weston in 1997. In addition, the online collection contains added interior and exterior views as well as other properties not included in the publication.
Alice Weston: Great Houses of Cincinnati can be searched by architect, title, style, date, location, and subject. Visitors to the site can view thumbnails and large versions of the images, and then can rotate, zoom in and out, magnify particular areas, download, and print the images. Alice Weston: Great Houses of Cincinnati joins several other library digital collections online, including:
- Cooperative Engineer: issues of the quarterly publication produced from 1921 to 1975 by the students and alumni of the College of Engineering, University of Cincinnati.
- The Architecture and Urban Planning Collection: over 2,500 architectural and urban planning images from China, Africa, Europe, and the United States, with an emphasis on Cincinnati.
- The News Record: issues of the University of Cincinnati's independent student newspaper, September 1960 through July 1970.
