HISTORY RESOURCES
Oral Histories of the 1970 Kent State Shootings - http://worlddmc.ohiolink.edu/History/Login
A collection of 69 oral histories related to the May 4, 1970 shootings at Kent State University has been added to OhioLINK's Digital Media Center (DMC). The histories include many eyewitness accounts from former students, faculty members, and a National Guardsman describing the event and its aftermath. The collection is available as audio files requiring Apple's free QuickTime player to access. A written transcript is also available for most of the oral histories. The collection is maintained and was contributed to the DMC by the Department of Special Collections and Archives, Libraries, and Media Services at Kent State University.
American History Online - http://www.fofweb.com/Subscription/
American History Online provides extensive coverage of the history of America and its people. Employing the same encyclopedic treatment and easy-to-use features that have made other Facts On File print and online resources a preferred choice of librarians, teachers, and students, American History Online is an ideal source for research on U.S. history. Spanning more than 500 years of political, military, social, and cultural history, thousands of biographies, subject entries, timeline entries, primary source documents, maps, and images cover the entire spectrum of the American experience.
SELECT ELECTRONIC RESOURCES REVISITED
BioMed Central (available through OhioLINK) - http://www.biomedcentral.com/
UC Libraries, through OhioLINK, are participating in an open-access publishing model that allows UC faculty and researchers to publish in BioMed Central's peer-reviewed journals at no cost. This agreement makes all 85 OhioLINK university and college libraries, including the University of Cincinnati, institutional members of BioMed Central. In addition, articles by UC faculty and researchers in BioMed Central's open-access journals are freely available to the world. Open-access journals offer content free to readers, in contrast to traditional subscription-based journals that charge subscribers a fee. Articles published by UC faculty and researchers are available on UC's institutional Web page located at http://www.biomedcentral.com/inst/47909 or via OhioLINK's Electronic Journal Center accessible at http://www.ohiolink.edu where all articles published by faculty from all OhioLINK institutions are included.
ERIC - http://rave.ohiolink.edu/databases/login/eric
ERIC indexes education-related literature, beginning in 1966. The ERIC database is the world's largest source of education information, containing abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice. The database covers descriptions and evaluations of programs, research reports and surveys, curriculum and teaching guides, instructional materials, position papers, and resource materials. In 1993, ERIC began indexing education-related books, including the output of major publishers. More recently it includes full-text non-journal documents (issued 1993-2004). ERIC may be accessed directly at http://www.eric.ed.gov. To take advantage of many links to full-text documents through OhioLINK, connect via http://rave.ohiolink.edu/databases/login/eric.
IEEE Xplore/IEL- http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/Xplore/dynhome.jsp
The IEEE Xplore allows the subscriber to search for and retrieve the full image of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) produced articles, conference papers, and standards back to 1988. The database also includes articles and conference papers sponsored by IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers). Subjects include: Aerospace, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical, Broadcasting, Circuits, Computer Graphics, Control Systems, Data Processing, Design Automation, Electrical Engineering, Fusion, Lasers, Manufacturing Automation, Microelectricalmechanical Systems (MEMS), Nanotechnology, and much, much more. This database is supported in part by the Schlemmer Family Library Fund and the generosity of Roger (EE '56) and Nancy Schlemmer.
