NEW ONLINE RESOURCES

Joseph Sabin’s Bibliotheca Americana: A Dictionary of Books Relating to America from Its Discovery to the Present Time has been heralded as a cornerstone in the study of the history of the Western Hemisphere, providing a wealth of research material necessary for intensive study of the history of the New World. Thomson Gale’s Sabin Americana, 1500-1926 takes the works currently captured from that bibliography and makes them available online. The resource offers original accounts of exploration, pioneering, settlement, the western movement, military actions, Native Americans, slavery, and abolition. With a simple search from a library terminal, dorm room, or from home, researchers can comb through 29,000 titles — more than 6 million pages of text — in a matter of seconds. This resource is brought to UC through a partnership between University Libraries and the Charles Phelps Taft Research Center.
UC users now have access to mathematics backfiles in Elsevier's ScienceDirect database. The backfiles contain articles from 63 journals dating back to 1826 and including such titles as the Journal of Algebra, Topology, Theoretical Computer Science, and the Journal of Differential Equations. Access to the mathematics backfiles is made possible through support of the Charles Phelps Taft Research Center. ScienceDirect offers more than a quarter of the world's scientific, medical, and technical information online. It contains over 2,000 peer-reviewed journals, hundreds of book series, as well as handbooks and reference works.

NOT YOUR TYPICAL RESEARCH DATABASE
Knovel provides online access to science and engineering books, conference proceedings, and databases from the world's leading scientific publishers and professional societies in 18 industrially important subject areas. Within Knovel, users can analyze and reorganize data from over 800 full-text reference works, handbooks, and databases. They can sort, filter, and export data from "live tables," resolve equations and plot graphs, capture values from existing graphs, and perform "what if" experiments on the data.
