Funding Opportunities | Other Funding Needs | Donor Recognition
The growth of University Libraries can be achieved only with private support. Donations are vital to maintain and enhance University Libraries by:
There are many ways to invest in University Libraries. Gifts may include cash, securities, real estate or personal property, endowments, sponsorships, planned gifts, and donations of personal libraries.
We also welcome memorial and tribute gifts that honor an individual, group, or a special occasion. Upon receipt of a memorial or tribute gift, University Libraries will notify the person you specify concerning the gift and the donor’s name, but will not disclose the gift amount.
All donations are fully tax-deductible to the extent permitted by IRS regulations. Employer-sponsored corporate matching gift programs enable donors to increase their contributions to UC. To make an online donation to University Libraries through the University of Cincinnati Foundation’s Web site, visit their secure site at https://giveto.uc.edu/gift/givenow/gift.aspx.

A major remodeling effort will take place at Langsam Library over the next few years. Funds are needed to help purchase new furniture for public areas, including lounge chairs, study carrels, tables and chairs, and new book shelving that will be reduced in height in an effort to create a more open and attractive environment.
Naming opportunities are available for several departmental and college libraries, designated areas in Langsam Library, and specific library furnishings. Naming opportunities provide an excellent way for donors to honor an individual, family, foundation, corporation, or organization.Unrestricted support to University Libraries is allocated to the Annual Fund account, which enables the Dean and University Librarian to direct funding to areas with the greatest need. Unrestricted gifts to University Libraries also help to underwrite the annual Authors, Editors & Composers event, which celebrates the creative and scholarly works of the UC Faculty, as well as the library newsletter, public lectures, exhibits, and special events or projects.
You may also support the Archives and Rare Books Library or one of the eight college or department libraries of your choice, including:
If you are interested in a specific giving opportunity, please consider directing a contribution to one of the following areas needing additional support:
Collections
University Libraries requires private funding to help cover the costs of acquiring books and electronic resources that help maintain UC's top ranking as an excellent research library. Gifts may be designated for the Library Collections Endowment or spent immediately to purchase new materials in an academic discipline of interest to the donor or in academic areas targeted for growth.
Special Collections
University Libraries owns a number of rare collections that are historic and of significant value to UC students and faculty, as well as scholars and historians throughout the United States and world. Funding is needed to catalog and preserve some of these items to ensure access to them and improve their longevity.
Digitizing Special Collections
Using state-of-the-art technology, digitization makes it possible to preserve and provide access to unique primary sources. Documents to be digitized include historical documents, archives, photographs, art, and other materials. The digitized documents can then be made available through the UC catalog and Web site and be posted on other digital resources Web sites, such as OhioLINK, a consortium of academic libraries in Ohio.
Technology
To maintain a competitive edge in an increasingly technological world, UC students, faculty, and staff need access to the latest production tools, such as computers, printers, scanners, specialized software, and audiovisual and digital equipment for their course work. These resources are available throughout University Libraries, including the Student Technology Resources Center (STRC) in Langsam Library, which provides individual assistance to students with instructional technology needs. Continuous advances in technology and high use of equipment mean that computers in the libraries need to be replaced every 3-4 years.
Facilities and Furnishings
University Libraries often serves as the personal office or second home for students, especially commuters, during their intense undergraduate or graduate years. To meet student needs, the libraries need to provide comfortable, well-lit, and well-equipped research and study areas, including an outdoor study area on the Langsam Library Patio where students have wireless Internet access with their laptops. These and other facility enhancements help to improve the comfort and functionality of the Libraries and increase their usability and attractiveness for UC students, faculty, and staff, and other library patrons.
Gifts-in-Kind of Books, Journals, or Other Items
