Computer Printing Procedures and Charges

The University of Cincinnati spends $600,000 each year to provide to students and others "free" printing in computer labs and libraries. In 2003, UC joined the majority of universities in instituting a system to manage printing. Black and white prints cost $.07 per page and color prints cost $.50 per page, less than Kinko's and most other printing facilities.

At the Academic Health Center, computers in the following locations operate on the new system:

  • Health Sciences Library
  • College of Medicine (COM) medical student lounge
  • COM graduate student lounge
  • COM E-level 24 hour computer lab
  • COM Student Affairs computer lab

Wireless Printing is available in the Health Sciences Computer Lab. Currently printers 3 and 11are available through the wireless printing system.

College of Medicine Students

The College of Medicine generously subsidizes printing for its medical and graduate students. Each student printing account is given a $100 value (i.e., > 1400 B&W pages free) on July 1 of each year. On February 3, 2003, the initial prorated allocation is $42.

COM students may purchase additional printing by:

  • Activating UC ID badge as a Bearcat Campus Card and adding value to it using a personal credit card via the Bearcat Campus Card web site
  • Using a Value Transfer Station in the vending area next to Starbuck's.
  • Using a Value Transfer Station on the West Campus.
  • Calling the Bearcat Campus Card office at 556-2000.

College of Pharmacy, College of Allied Health Sciences, and College of Nursing Students

Students in the College of Pharmacy receive 200 subsidized prints per quarter. Students in the College of Allied Health Sciences receive 200 subsidized prints per quarter. And students in the College of Nursing receive 100 subsidized prints per quarter at printers using the University's print management system. COP, CAHS, and CON students may purchase additional printing via the same options as COM students.

Academic Health Center Faculty

Faculty and staff can pay for printing at computers in the above locations in several ways:

  • Activate UC ID badge as a Bearcat Campus Card. To do this, visit the Bearcat Campus Card web site and follow instructions to activate card and deposit money using a personal credit card.
  • A department or program may buy a generic Bearcat Campus Card. Generic cards may be purchased on East Campus at the Health Sciences Library, and at a number of Value Transfer Stations on West Campus.

When the Bearcat Campus Card account is depleted, a person may:

  • Electronically add value to it via the Bearcat Campus Card web site using a credit card.
  • Use a Value Transfer Station on the West Campus.
  • Call the Bearcat Campus Card Office at 556-2000.

University Hospital Residents

University Hospital residents have two choices for printing in the above locations:

  • Purchase a generic Bearcat Campus Card at the East Campus Bookstore, the Health Sciences Library, or at a number of Value Transfer Stations on West Campus.
  • With your department's support, procure a UC ID badge, which you can then activate as a personal Bearcat Campus Card and to which you can add value at the Bearcat Campus Card web site, using a Value Transfer Station in the vending area next to Starbuck's, or by calling the Bearcat Campus Card office at 556-2000.

A department or program may also buy a generic Bearcat Campus Card for use by authorized residents in the department or program.

Visitors/Guests

Visitors and guests may buy a generic Bearcat Campus Card at the Health Sciences Library, and at a number of Value Transfer Stations on West Campus.

When the Bearcat Campus Card account is depleted, a visitor may:

  • Electronically add value to it via the Bearcat Campus Card web site using a credit card.
  • Use a Value Transfer Station on the West Campus.
  • Call the Bearcat Campus Card Office at 556-2000.
